Recommended Approach for Classifying and Managing Intangible Exports in Oracle GTM

Summary:

We are supporting a large technology client in reviewing its export compliance program for intangible exports, including technology, software, source code, and other electronic transfers.

The client currently uses Oracle Global Trade Management (GTM) to manage tangible hardware exports. They would like to explore how GTM could also support intangible activities, including product classification, export authorization, transaction screening, and compliance reporting.

We are seeking guidance from the Oracle GTM community on the following:

  1. What is the recommended approach for representing intangible items in GTM?
  2. Can intangible items be managed using existing product, item, trade item, or classification structures?
  3. What data attributes should be captured—for example, technology or software type, jurisdiction, ECCN, country of origin, transfer method, or recipient?
