Requesting assistance configuring the Audit/History feature in Product Information Management

Our Item Master team has requested we set up the 'History' tab in Product Information Management, within the Edit Item page. I've followed the instructions within the Implementing Applications manual, ch 11, and updated the 'Item' within Manage Audit Policies in a lower environment. When we made an update to an item however, we did not see any audit history available. Have I missed something?
