COST PROFILE - Quantity Depletion Method "Not Applicable" for Perpetual Average cost profile?

Hi all,
In Oracle Fusion Cloud Cost Accounting (26A), when creating a Cost Profile with Cost Method = Perpetual average, the Quantity Depletion Method field offers First in first out and Not Applicable.
The documentation only says the depletion method is not applicable for Periodic average. It doesn't explain what happens if we choose Not Applicable for Perpetual average.
Our goal is for issues and transfers to be costed purely at the running average cost, without cost layers tied to individual PO receipts in Cost Accounting Distributions.
Questions:
- What is the functional difference between FIFO and Not Applicable for Perpetual average?
