PBCS termination date showing as 1/0/1900 and sometimes being treated as a real term date

In PBCS, the termination date shows as 1/0/1900 in the Roster when an employee has no termination date. After a user updates an employee, that value is sometimes picked up as a real termination date, and compensation does not calculate for that employee. To get compensation to calculate, we have to manually delete the termination dates, but the field then displays as 1/0/1900 again.

We would like to know:

  1. Is there a way to restrict the application so it only picks up a termination date when a real date is entered?
  2. Is there another way to display an empty termination date so it is not treated as a date?
