Purchase approval rule using mapped attribute

We have a scenario involving purchase agreements that include a flexfield in the header with a Y/N list of values.
When a purchase order (PO) linked to one of these purchase agreements is being approved, I need to retrieve the value stored in that agreement's header flexfield.
Is it possible to configure this without using a skip rule?
