How to import an updated course without resetting users' scores/completion status

Well, this is my second of two questions today:

We recently changed from licensing content through Oracle directly to using a third party content provider. I work in the bankign industry and that means that if a regulation changes, the course changes. However, I'm curious how I would go about updating that course without resetting completion status, etc for those users who have already finished it.  Do I just need to re-load the course into my FTP, then insert the course and choose "overwrite existing?" 

I would appreciate insight from anyone who's experienced this.  Thanks!
