Bulk Import - Sensitive to any "escaped characters"

Does anyone know if the bulk import is sensitive in any way to escape characters....like ampersands and back slashes?

I am doing a massive import of about 24k users. And it seems to fail unexpectedly every now and then without much rhyme or reason.

Suggestions?

Other than chop the file down? I am importing about 1k at a time.
