Naming Convention Conflicts with making LMS User Friendly
Content
When we started with Learn.com we were strongly encourage to create a strong naming convention for our ILT's Enrollments and Courses to easily identify core info such as year of training and audience, etc.
Example: ILT_ODL_131000 Annual requiredTraining (ART) for Employees 2013
Our naming convention has worked very well for Admins in our duties to quickly identify type of training, business owner, year of traing and audience and has many benefits for course and enrollment management and reporting.
However, our leadership has asked us to remove the coding on the front end (ILT_ODL_131000) to make the LMS easier for users to find what they need in enrollment lists and for user to quickly understand the automated messages that are sent out . Obviously our leading codes have no benefit for the user and just add noise for the end users to read though when they are searching for content or looking for enrollments in our catalog. However, we don't want to lose the naming conventions because of the benefits it has for us in managing content.
