Looking for a Guru on how to embed a PDF or .doc into a LC Question

Normally, we are quite content with the Q and A builder in the LearnCenter. However, we now have a need that needs information displayed to the user in a more formatted style that the Q editor allows. We also need the information to be copyable so the user can copy portions of the exercise to initiate their short answer.
When we map resources to a question, we found that .png graphics will embedded beautifully in the page (yet the user can't copy and paste) . When we map the exercise as a.doc or .pdfs, those formats are linked. Does anyone know know a format that can be copied from and will embed into the question page? We do not want the user to have to open another window.
