Assignment to Page Layouts

In Taleo Perform and Onbaord, if I navigate to Page Layouts and click on the Assignement Icon, I see a list of the roles and users assigned to this Page Layout.
Under Roles, if I see "Administrator" and "Hiring Manager", I understand that anyone designated to these two roles would have access to that Page Layout.
Under Users, if I see a Manager's name, for example, Mary Smith, does this mean that Mary has been given separate access to this Page Layout, not in connection with her role? If this is the case, I would think that if I navigate to Mary Smith, the User and Navigate to Mary's Page Layouts and hit Reset, that she should then be assigned the defaults for her Taleo Role? Is this correct?
