New Search Feature: Hide facet????

Lets say we would like to hide the display "facet"(left hand jammy that holds options and categories, etc.) anyone figure out with css or another approach how to hide that puppy?  Also, is it just me or does the advanced search DO draw itself really slow? We are putting the Search bar in a menu bar, and are finding it always draws slowly.
