Absence Qualification Plan UOM and Payroll Integration

I am working on a demo for my client to show basic absence setup in R10. I created a qualification plan short term disability. I selected UOM as weeks, and tried to setup the plan. However, on "Entries and Balances" tab, the "Transfer absence payment information for payroll processing" is grayed out and not available to select. On digging around further, I found that if UOM for the plan is "Months", "Weeks" or "Years",  this check box is disabled for selection. I am struggling to find out reason for this logic to allow payroll integration only if UOM is "Hours", "Days" or "Calendar
