Can indirect reports be mapped to a Learning Plan via My Teams

We use the indirect report feature of My Teams alot!  Our managers will designate a staff person to do most everything in My Teams and the way that we populate that designee is to add the manager to their My Team List.  We just started using Learning Plans with My Teams and we see that Include Indirect reports is not included.  It seems odd because Include indirect reports is most everywhere else, just not here.  Am I doing something wrong?
