Employees on Leave of Absence

Looking for ideas on how to keep employees training mapped for employees on leave

I need a process to keep the employees/users who go out on a leave of absence in the Learning Center and mapped to their training with the due dates while they are on a leave. I thought I could change their status to Pending and keep them in the system and mapped through the dynamic groups but this is not working. I can't keep them in the Active status because that would allow them access to training while they are on leave and that is not an option at this time.
