'Employment Type' Email Merge Code

I am trying to populate an email template with data from the 'Employment Type' field from the employee profile. Essentially we want to provide information on the employee to certain areas in the business (full time, part time etc).
Within the email template, I can see every field, other than the Employment Type one? I spoke to Support and they suggested some fields weren't available to merge into email templates. Seems like a strange one, given this is a standard field.
Has anyone else come across this or have any suggestions?
