Unable to assign assets to a middle-level task in PPM

We have a use case where we would like to create/assign assets at a middle-level task in our work breakdown structure.  It appears that currently (Fusion R11) you must assign the asset either to a top or lowest-level task.  Do other customers have a similar use case?  Is there an enhancement request or plan for this functionality in the Fusion PPM road-map?
