Hyperlinks within Content Manager Document

Hyperlinks become disabled once uploaded to Content Manager

In testing the loading of documents, of any type, into the Content Manager, I'm noticing that (if the document contains hyperlinks) the hyperlinks become disabled.  Is this by design or am I missing something?
