Traversing Department Tree in Reports with a Parameter

The ability to use one parameter in an otbi report for the department hierarchy as opposed to the multiple levels of departments being handled individuallyContent
We would like to create an otbi dashboard that uses the department tree to view aggregate data for departments at different levels of the organization. Instead of using each individual department level field that is available in OTBI, we'd like to drill into one parameter that is intelligent enough to know by selecting a department at level 5 for instance that it should also include data in all the department levels below it. Does anyone have experience with this? The way the department hierarchy dimension is set up is not ideal for parameters as we don't want 12 parameters for
