How to specify the value set for a Select List Item

I have 3 Business Objects named as follows.

Status Code

Employee Relationships

Employee Friends and Family

I have setup a list of Status Codes (ACTIVE and INACTIVE) and Employee Relationships (Mother, Father, Brother, Friend etc.)

I am trying to associate Names with Relationships on a Page. The Status and the Relationship Type were changed to be Select lists with the value set to the following.

{{ $page.variables.employeeFriendsAndFamil.relationshipTypeObject[0].relationshipName }}

{{ $page.variables.employeeFriendsAndFamil.relationshipStatusObjec[0].statusCode }}

However, when I run the application, no values show up on the Select list.
