how to process a non catalog item once request is approved

Content

A employee has requested a non catalog item in his self-service UI. The request has followed an approval flow and can now be found under Learning Assignments with status 'Request Approved'. It seems not possible to modify the status to completed. This request is also not visible under 'current learning' in the self-service of the employee. How this completion status can be triggered, as there is no real offering or course attached to this request?
