When to use ApplicationName- before roles

When I create a role in an application using the organization GUI it prefixes the application name in front of the role name.  We are using roles mostly to identify job titles.  Therefore they are often shared across multiple applications.  I can create a role in the workspace admin console without the prefix and call that role from the process in any application.  I am wondering if anyone else does that and if there is any recommended practice surrounding this?

 

Additionally, what are the use cases for roles v. groups?  As a practice we use roles to describe job titles and groups to describe cross functional groups that share a similar purpose.  Is there any recommendations on this?
