Here is a small tip worth noting if you encounter a similar issue.

We recently triaged a bug where the customer reported a garbled looking description for specific categories when searching for categories using the LOV popup in the Enter Requisition Line page. 

Our development was able to isolate the issue to a specific root cause:

The category description in question used an 'Enter' character (basically used Enter and split the description into separate parts) when creating the description. The description in this case was rather long.
