Change project data source without breaking project?

Content

Has anyone figured out a way to change the data source without breaking the project?  The requirement is simple:

1) Sometimes we want to copy a project and keep existing built graphs and canvas but change the data source to a different version (same fields, just different data)

2) Go back and forth between versions of data (project 1 is last month's data, new copied project would have new data)

It looks like you can only "reload" a data source, never change it or use a new version.  We can upload a different Excel file and reload, but this defeats the purpose.  To show an older version of the data you'd have to go back and keep changing the Excel file, you could never really have two separate projects without completely re-creating a new project.  It also looks like you can't rename a data source either.

I would say simply add a column 'Month' to your data source that you can use as a filter?

Not Sure what exactly you are trying to achieve and how the data differs.

The problem with that solution is with lots of rows it will get slow and clunky real fast.  Users need a simple option to keep a project but use with a differently named data source.

I have the same requirement and would like to know how this is done.  For my use case, I have on project designed, but would like to replicate to use for the same data set but for different orgs.  As mentioned above, I want to keep the original project for org 1, then copy the project but update the data source to use org 2.  When I try this, both the original and copied projects use the data set for org 2.
