Adding Components to Benefit Responsive pages prevents Source editing

Sandbox stops working correctly after adding Text box or other components

We are trying to add Components to the Benefit responsive pages to display additional information. I am able to add a text box (most of the time), but then I am no longer able to use the source edit to select fields for updates - the small magnifying glass does not appear instead the little hand is the cursor.

Oracle has left so much details out of the election and confirmation pages that we need to add these Components in order for employees to understand what they are enrolling in and to acknowledge their confirmation.
