Effective date on products number/attachments

Effective date on product numbers not matching effective date on attached document

Hi - When a user creates a new product number, attaches a document and adds to a change order for approval, the effective date is auto populated on the product number after the final approval. The attached document however has a effective date that typically does not match the product number effective date. 

We are looking for a way, whether systemically or handle by process,  that we can have the product number effective date and the attached document effective date to match. 

Please let me know if you have any thoughts or ides. I appreciate any information that can be shared .
