How can I associate an image with a single select menu in Commerce

I would like to display a cover page image with each option in single select menu

Content

I have images in File Manager for each cover page option on our Document.  We currently use java script to show the image for the selection made in a single select menu.   I would like to avoid java script for my Jet UI implementation.   Do you have a suggestion for how I could associate an image with the single select menu options in Commerce?
