is it possible to default assignment name to position name and not job?

We would like the assignment name to populate with the position title, automatically. Currently, the assignment name either populates with the assignment number, if there is no job on the assignment, or populates with the job title if the assignment has a job. In the instance where an assignment has both and job and a position, we would like to find a way to populate the assignment name with the Position. We are looking to find a way to accomplish this, other than manually changing the assignment name field that we exposed.
