Audit logs not restored from nightly snapshot

In PBCS, last month we had an issue in the Prod environment and had to restore from the previous days snapshot.  Today we exported the audit logs and discovered they only go back to April 2.  Since the application was fully restored, why wouldn't the audit logs contain information for the maximum 180 days?  Has anyone else encountered this issue?
