I need to create a validation formula to restrict a leave type to apply only if total Absence including current isnot more than 20 days.

I need to create a validation formula to restrict a leave type to apply only if total Absence including current Absence is not more than 20 days. I am not able to find any specific function which can calculate leave duration through out the calendar cycle.
