Multiple assignments same name - issues selecting correct one in absence

We have a significant number of employees (approx. 2000) that have multiple assignments, within this group approximately 1/2 have assignments with the same assignment name e.g. an employee may be a Cleaner for one part of the business and another (different mangers, cost centres, departments etc). So, they would have two assignments called 'Cleaner'. When these employees raise an absence they cannot distinguish which assignment is which and therefore which assignment to select. Does anyone else have this issue? Or advice as to how we may handle it?
