How to link consecutive absences with same absence type together in an analysis

We are not using OT&L and have an interface bringing in absence hours into Oracle HCM. The absences are stored in 1 day intervals so when we have employees on a leave or extended absence of any kind we get daily records with start date and end date the next day. This makes the data impossible to use at a glance and what I really want to do is create a report that groups absences that are consecutive and brings the start date as the initial date of when that absence type started and end date as the last day in
