Reduce blank space on Newsfeed layout

Newsfeed layout has a lot of unused horizontal space on the home page - almost 40% of the page is unused in our environment. We would like to be able to utilize much more of the available screen space. 

Use Case and Business Need

Almost 40% of the newsfeed homepage is blank space. This significantly reduces the usable Analytics space as compared to the panel layout, which we were using to display a custom dashboard. In newsfeed, much of our dashboard is no longer visible without excessive side scrolling. We would like to be able to use all or almost all of the horizontal space on the screen to display our analytics on the homepage.
