How to retrieve only the latest assignment record through REST API

We are trying to fetch assignment data based on the Person Number as parameter using the below API request.

GET        {{url}}/hcmRestApi/resources/11.13.18.05/workers?q=PersonNumber=12345&onlyData=true&expand=workRelationships.assignments

However this returns all the work relationship and assignment records employee is having including previously terminated work relationship and all historic assignment records.
how can we restrict this to fetch only the latest active work relationship and assignment data?
