Any way to automatically backup OTBI Custom directory?

I am trying to think up a way to do backups on the custom reports directory in OTBI

As the title states, has anyone come up with a way to automatically backup your 'Custom' directory in OTBI? 

According to all of the documentation I've read to this point, Oracle only does POD level backups but nothing granular. In order to backup a customer's OTBI 'custom' directory, they recommend using the Archive/Unarchive steps. I am currently doing this every morning and manually storing these catalog files in the event they are needed. Obviously with the correct securities the need for this is drastically minimized, but I've also learned that stuff happens.
