Modify child model in system configuration (ABO)

We have System configuration implemented in our environment 

We are in the process of enabling ABO

Root Model 

      Child Model 1

When the system configuration is converted to asset it would show below models in the Asset Page:

Root Model 

Child Model 1

Child Model 2

Child Model 3 

If the user wants to modify just the child model 1 can the user click on the child model and just assetize the Child Model 1 or the Root Model will have to be Modified.
