Item Flexfields from Master to Org level

My client has about 30 flexfields on the Item Master. When creating items and assigning them to the orgs, the dff's are filled out at the Master level and flow down to the Org level. Later the client wants to update the data in the DFF. We have to update it at both the Master and Org level. Does anybody know a way to get the update to flow from the Master to Org level? The client does not like the idea of doing what they call "double work". They want the Master and Org level to always match.
