Unable to pick Principal Investigator while defining the Procurement approvals for Project Requisiti

We have defined Project Manager and Principal Investigators as two different resources for our projects.  When configuring approvals for Project related requisition, we are able to pick the PM as a approver, but the project role of Principal Investigator does not show up.
