Alerts: adding email link to the body and Add To Calendar link

I have created the following using HTML within the alert text body:

<a class="NotificationLink" ${href}="${addToCalendarLink}" ;target="_blank">Add to Calendar</a>

<a href="email address">Learning and Development</a>

 The email address opens the web browser but it should open the email client.

The Add to Calendar doesn't do anything.

Has anyone got any suggestions for me?
