Select Single - Default Item Text

I have a select single using a ADP and as part of the VB Enter action chain I would like to pre-select one of the values in the ADP and have it displayed in the select single.  I have a variable defined on the Value property of the ADP and if I assign the variable in the VB Enter action chain the value is highlighted when I click the arrow to show the options in the select single, but I would like to see the value without having to click the arrow.
