Is it possible to Inactivate a Sponsor?

A sponsor was created twice in our sponsor table.  Each duplicate sponsor has their own customer number.  I have inactivated the duplicate customer but the duplicate sponsor is still showing as active and is available for selection on an award.  Is there there a way to inactivate the sponsor?
