Question on simplified dimension editor and shared member hierarchy

In our test app (21.04) I'm trying to add a member (shared-account) to an alternate hierarchy. I tried first with the classic editor but although this appeared to work the data wasn't reflected at base level. Apparently this is a known issue so I tried the same with the simplified dimension editor (per the Oracle doc 2405310.1) however on saving the editor complains about the use of Average as an exchange type on accounts and I get a message in smartview about the new member not being recognised by Essbase or Planning even though its visible.
