Having trouble with Smart View ad hoc read/write access

Hi everyone,

Is there a way to provision Smart View ad hoc read/write access in a similar manner to dimension security, where if a user has both read and write access, the write is prioritized?

The use case here is this: We want to disable Smart View ad hoc write access for most users. Logically, I thought to provision our "All Groups" security group with the Ad Hoc Read role, then provision the Ad Hoc User role to the groups that should have Smart View ad hoc write access (I made an assumption that Ad Hoc User would allow write). However, this doesn't seem to work - the users that should have write access still only have read access.
