Does anyone know what the process 'Process Imported Time Entries' does exactly?

Summary

Does it purge the data from the temporary table?

Content

We use webservices to upload timecards.

In some cases we have issues importing the data completely. There is no error returning, but the data is only partly imported.

We did not ran the 'Process Imported Time Entries'. But the import worked for most of the cases.

Why should we run this process?
