ADP data assignment

Hi, 

    Is it not possible to use an ADP type variable in a component to directly assign the value ? 

I have attached a sample application where I get the error - "Cannot set the value true to property  checked of the variable ' varADP_value 'as it disallows property writes. Use VB actions like assignVariablesAction to update the variable instead." . I tried this with other component types as well and got the same error. 

Do we always have to use action chains when working with ADP's ?
