Position Synchronization required for custom manager type

We need to use position hierarchy for absence approvals but in he SR we're told that Position Hierarchy is not suitable for Absence approval based on Position Hierarchy. So we need an alternative solution to implement position hierarchy chain on absence approvals

We've created a new manager type other than "Line Manager", which is "Absence Approver", we need the position synchronization to update this manager type on the emloyee's manager information, instead of standard "Line Manager" type. Then in the task configuration we'll select "Absence Approver" for the approval chain. Can we achieve that?
