Learning Assignment on Offering Level does not apply the expiration rule

I am currently doing some testing with this approach. We want the learners to be enrolled onto the offering directly. The course itself has expiration rules and renewal. When I assign this offering to a learner it appears that the expiration/renewal rules on course level are not being considered. Is this correct?

i can go into edit assignment on course level and see that it hasn't picked up the rules, however I am able to manually change this to those rules. But does this work? Will this then be automatically renewed.
