Transition rule email notifications for customer's approval

Approval sequence can be used for internal approvals. Similarly, for customer approvals, can we use transition approval notifications or is there any other approach to achieve the same?

I tried using transition rule email notifications, but the notification does not show Approve / Reject links (as per the documentation, it's correct).
