How to update Assignment field and insert assignment records

I would also be grateful if someone can advise how I update field on specific assignment records. For example:

Employee A has assignment lines from

*01-apr-2007 to 8-jun-2014

*9-jun-2014 to 12-mar-2017

13-mar-2017 to 7-apr-2021

8-april-2021 ongoing

Only the records with the * need the department updating. How do I achieve this please?

I have tried the template in HSDL Template: Maintain Assignment — Cloud Customer Connect (oracle.com) – but am receiving errors.

The line for component {DISCRIM} with instruction {INSTR} doesn't include values that define a unique reference to the record.

No objects can be loaded because no valid objects exist. Review the error messages, correct the data, and resubmit the data in a new file.
