Does anyone have any idea why Areas of Responsibilities remain active for leavers?

Does anyone have any idea why Areas of Responsibilities remain active for leavers? we can obviously revoke access and roles for leavers but is there a way to do the same for AoRs that i'm missing?

Given that we can revoke access and roles for leavers, is there a way to do the same for AoRs. There are thousands of active AoRs without roles so the access link is broken but wondering if theres anything that can be triggered within HCM to auto end date AoRs.
