How to report on initial absence start date while maintaining current absence start/end date columns

Hi All,
I have a requirement to report on the initial start date of consecutive absences, while also showing the start date and end date of the current absence. So far, I have managed to create columns showing the initial start date and current end date, but when I filter on the current absence (Date End is null), the column with the initial start date picks up the current start date.
Is it possible to filter the report on current absences, while maintaining the initial start date in that column?
E.g.: for the record below the report should show only the bottom row:
